Liverpool’s hopes of landing Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk have been dealt another blow as their second bid of £28m have been rejected by the Ukrainian club.
Liverpool are understood to have made an opening bid of £24.5m for the playmaker, but it was rejected by Shakhtar, only for the Reds to make a second bid of £28m which has also been rejected by Shakhtar.
The setbacks notwithstanding, Liverpool are expected to make further bids as they seek to wrap up a deal for the player, who is also seriously being monitored by Chelsea.
The 26-year old Brazilian has scored 22 goals in 15 games for Shakhtar this season, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is need of firepower in his team if they are to mount any serious challenge on the top four.
Bayern Munich are also understood to be in the race for the player, a development which will make his capture by Liverpool all the more difficult.
