Home based Super Eagles defender Jamiu Alimi says he remains unfazed after bagging an early booking and was hauled off after only 17 minutes in Nigeria’s 4-1 CHAN opening game win against Niger Republic on Monday.
The Shooting Stars defender however posited that it was the right call by coach Sunday Oliseh to pull off.
“I’m not disappointed with my performance and the early substitution. The coach saw things from his view and I think the decision to substitute me was right as it was a sacrifice to avoid more harm to the team,” Alimi said to npfl.ng.
“I think the referee was too harsh in his decisions, but his decision has to be respected. He was doing his job just as we had to do ours and deliver the result.
“In the early minutes I got booked for a decision I won’t agree deserved to be a card offence, but it’s more important for us to play safe, and it was a good decision from the technical crew to sacrifice me and not hurt the game plan,” he said.
The defender was replaced by Orji Kalu, who went on to have a solid game and it remains to be seen if he will get the chance to start when they play Tunisia on Friday.
