Victor Moses returned to the West Ham first team as a second half substitute after a one month absence through injury, but couldn’t do much as they went down 2-1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
The Nigeria international had been out since suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester United last month, but made his return to first team action as he replaced Michail Antonio after 70 minutes in the loss at St. James’ Park.
The seemingly rejuvenated Newcastle went ahead as early as the sixth minute with Ayoze Perez scoring off the assist of Georginio Wijnadulm. The Magpies would score their second just nine minutes later when the in-form Wijnadulm turned scorer, as Newcastle dominated the first half.
Nikica Jelavic however pulled one back for the Hammers on 49 minutes, as they continued to press for the equalizer. Moses was subsequently introduced to add verve the team’s attack but it wasn’t to be as they went down to their hosts.
The 25-year old had missed West Ham’s last six games and will be hoping to return the club’s starting eleven ahead of next weekend’s game against Manchester City.
