Head Coach of the Cameroon national football team, Hugo Broos is already talking tough even as he has predicted difficult times for Nigeria and other countries housed in Group B in the race to make it to Russia 2018.
Speaking after the draws in Cairo on Friday, Coach of Indomitable Lions right submitted that Cameroon are in a ‘group of death’ with Nigeria, Algeria and Zambia.
“This is the group of death and it’s a very difficult group, especially with a team like Algeria, you also have Zambia and Nigeria, three very good teams,” the Belgian gaffer began.
He added: “It will be very difficult for each team in the group. We will see what happens on the opening days in October and November”
The trio of Algeria, Cameroon and Nigeria were all present at the last World Cup in Brazil but only one or none if Zambia pulls an upset will be in Russia 2018.
Only recently, Broos told FIFA.com that he is preoccupied with making sure Cameroon makes it to the World Cup in Russia and he is confident in making it through once the players obey him to the letter.
“Qualification for the World Cup will depend on how fast the players buy into the rebuilding project. We’ll need to build a solid side, one that can compete with any opponents. If the players apply the advice that we give them at training, it will all go well. Getting Cameroon to Russia 2018 is my prime objective.”
While their Italia 90 heroics remain fresh in the memories of many, Cameroon are regulars at the FIFA World Cup, having appeared on football’s biggest stage at South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014, after missing out on Germany 2006. Despite this good record, the task to be in Russia is still likely to be tedious.
