There should be some ‘quality additions’ to the Arsenal set up by the end of January as manager Arsene Wenger has said that the club “will be busy” in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Though usually seen as a spend-thrift, the Frenchman has admitted that injuries have left him short in areas and would be out to get cover for his team who are topping the Premier League at the midway point of the season even with the challenges.
“I will be busy that is for sure,” Wenger told reporters. “I have already said we are short.”
The Gunners have been heavily linked with Basel’s Mohamed Elneny and the 23-year-old Egyptian has reportedly undergone a medical with the club.
Although Wenger did not dismiss the rumours, he refused to confirm his interest in the defensive midfielder.
“You know more than me,” Wenger added. “Unfortunately we cannot announce anything yet about this player. Nothing has been concluded.”
Elneny has scored four times in 21 games for Basel this season.
