Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that with Barcelona’s Luis Suarez or Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero in his team, they would score more goals than having Wayne Rooney in the team.
The Red Devils has failed to score in four of their last six premier league fixtures at Old Trafford with many pundits putting it down to the Dutchman’s boring philosophy.
And he drew even more criticism at the weekend following Manchester United’s goalless draw against a struggling West Ham United that are without a win in their last five games.
However, the former Barcelona manager has defended himself by saying that his side were wasteful in the final third but with players like Suarez and Aguero they will bury a lot of their chances.
“The question is would Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero score if they were here?” the 64-year-old told BBC Radio Manchester. “That is a question mark. You never know. I think they would, though. We’ve created enough chances to score, so that was not the problem.”
Manchester United will return to action on Tuesday as they face Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg in their final group match as they seek qualification to the knockout phase.
