Real Madrid began their 2016/2017 Primera Liga season campaign with a 3-0 drubbing of Real Sociedad away at the Anoeta Stadium on Sunday evening.
Gareth Bale grabbed a brace while Marco Asensio scored the other goal as Real registered a comfortable away win.
Missing a number of of first team players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema, Coach Zinedine Zidane gave a number of young and fringe players a chance in the starting XI. Marco Asensio, Matteo Kovacic and Alvaro Morata were all given starting berths.
It took just two two minutes for the European champions to take the lead in the season’s opener through Gareth Bale who rose high to head home a Dani Carvajal cross from the right flank.
The Los Blancos took full control of the game thereafter causing the hosts lots of problems. Alvaro Morata, Bale and Kovacic coming close to to doubling Madrid’s lead in the opening half of the match.
Madrid finally got the second goal five minutes before the break through youngster Marco Asensio. The attacker connected to a Raphael Varane cross looping over on rushing Sociedad keeeper Geronimo Rulli to double Madrid’s lead.
The second half was equally dominated by the visitors causing Sociedad endless problems, Gareth Bale on the right and Asensio on the left flank always proved to be a danger especially on the break.
Toni Kross hit the cross bar with a ferocius drive from inside the area as the hour mark approached while Morata had a penalty appeal waved away by the ref. The hosts failed to create any meaningful chances despite pressing hard late in the game in search of goals.
Gareth Bale completed the rout in stoppage time rounding Sociedad keeper Rulli and finishing into an empty net.
